What happened

Eight days of rain pushed water into homes, fields, and roads.

Record rain, flash floods, hill runoff, and landslides spread across southeastern Bangladesh. Some families escaped through deep water. Others were cut off as roads and bridges failed.

As the rain eases, the next emergency is becoming visible: collapsed homes, food and belongings destroyed, unsafe drinking water, and livelihoods washed away.

What families experienced

They left with what they could carry. Some returned to no home.

These individual accounts were documented by local reporters in the affected area. They are not presented as confirmed Ruhama recipients; they show the conditions that households across the region are facing.

01Bagmara, Banshkhali

A home gone. Eight people on an embankment.

Abdur Rahim said his home collapsed and his eight-member family had to shelter on the coastal embankment. The flood also destroyed the seedbeds he had worked to prepare.

02Lakkhyarchar, Chakaria

They fled when the water reached neck height.

Nur Mohammad and his family returned after three days to find furniture, important documents, rice, and paddy soaked or destroyed.

03Memberpara, Bandarban

The water left. Mud and filth stayed behind.

After five days stranded, Md Jasim Uddin returned to a home coated in mud and waste, with furniture, food, and household belongings ruined.

What the water did

It entered the places families thought were safe.

First the road disappeared. Then water reached the kitchen, the stored rice, the bed, and the papers a family could not replace.

For a family, flood damage is not a distant statistic. It is food gone, a home unsafe, and no dry place to begin again.

Their situation now

The water is receding. The crisis is not.

Families are cleaning mud from their homes without dry food, safe water, reliable electricity, or basic household supplies. For communities still cut off, even available aid can be difficult to reach.

01

Safe water

Wells are submerged, and power cuts stop families from pumping groundwater.

What is needed

Drinking water, oral saline, water treatment, and basic hygiene supplies.

02

Food that is ready now

Stored rice and paddy are soaked, kitchens are damaged, and some markets are out of reach.

What is needed

Dry food and essential groceries that families can use in current conditions.

03

Health and household essentials

Standing water, debris, and displacement increase health risks, especially for children and older people.

What is needed

First-aid items, essential medicine, baby supplies, and cleaning essentials.

04

A way to reach them

Damaged roads, bridges, and deep water continue to isolate communities.

What is needed

Last-mile transport so urgent supplies reach cut-off households safely.
