Giving from What You Love

It is easy to treat a donation like any other payment: choose an amount, confirm it, and move on. Surah Ali 'Imran asks us to stop and consider what we are giving:

"You will never achieve righteousness until you donate some of what you cherish. And whatever you give is certainly well known to Allah."

Surah Ali 'Imran 3:92

The verse turns our attention to what we value. The gift might come from money we had planned to keep, or it might be something useful that we would happily use ourselves.

It says to give "some" of what we cherish. A modest gift can still be a deliberate one. Its size depends on your circumstances. Its sincerity remains between you and Allah.

Before giving, ask yourself what you are attached to and what you can responsibly offer. Make the choice with care, then give it for Allah's sake.

The verse ends by reminding us that Allah knows whatever we give. Other people may never notice the gift, but it is known to Him.
