What Ruhama's Optional Admin Fund Covers

At checkout, Ruhama asks whether you want to add $2, $5, or $10 for admin costs. You can choose $0.

That raises an obvious question. If Ruhama has no paid staff, what is the admin money for?

Ruhama is run by volunteers, but getting assistance to people through trusted local relationships still costs money. The admin fund pays for travel and delivery while keeping those expenses out of the donation amount.

Two amounts, shown separately

Ruhama says that 100% of the donation amount supports widows, orphans, and families in need across Bangladesh and Egypt. Donors who want to help with admin costs add that money separately.

The checkout shows both amounts before payment. If you donate $50 and add $5 for admin, the total is $55. The summary lists $50 as the donation and $5 as admin. Choose $0 and the total stays at $50.

The admin option defaults to $0. It does not change your chosen cause, and you do not have to add it to give. You can see exactly how much is intended for assistance and how much you have added for delivery.

What the fund pays for

Ruhama describes two uses for the fund: travel to where assistance needs to go, and the cost of delivering that assistance.

Volunteer work removes salaries from Ruhama's model, but it does not make a journey or delivery free. The fund pays no salaries. Ruhama has no paid staff, and the team donates its time and skills while working through trusted local relationships.

The checkout also states that any admin surplus goes back into donations. Ruhama does not describe the fund as a reserve for unrelated spending.

Why keep it separate?

Some organisations include operating costs within each donation. Ruhama presents the donation and admin support as two choices.

For someone giving $25 to a cause, the full $25 remains the donation. A donor who can also help with travel or delivery may add a fixed amount. The options are $0, $2, $5, and $10 rather than a percentage added automatically.

This leaves room for different budgets. One person may have set aside a fixed amount for sadaqah. Another may want to cover some of the practical costs faced by volunteers. In both cases, checkout shows the decision plainly.

Choosing $0

Choosing $0 does not affect your cause or make the donation less welcome. Small admin contributions are pooled from donors who want to cover those costs. The option is not a test of generosity, especially if adding it would reduce your intended donation or stretch your budget.

The amount, purpose, and final total should be clear enough that declining is easy.

Admin costs and Zakat

The Zakat designation and admin contribution are separate choices in Ruhama's checkout. Marking a donation as Zakat tells Ruhama to distribute that donation to Zakat-eligible recipients according to Islamic guidelines. Any admin contribution stays separately identified in the total.

Whether a particular cost can be paid from Zakat may depend on fiqh details and personal circumstances. This article only explains the checkout. For guidance about your own Zakat, ask a qualified scholar you trust.

You can mark the donation as Zakat and leave admin at $0. If you add admin support, checkout continues to show the two amounts separately.

Before you pay

Checkout asks you to choose a cause and donation amount, decide whether the gift is Zakat, and review the optional admin choices. If you add admin money, the final button shows the donation and admin figures separately.

Ruhama's admin fund covers travel and delivery, pays no salaries, remains separate from the donation, and returns any surplus to donations. You can choose $0.

You can review the options before giving.
