What the Name Ruhama Means
Ruhama takes its name from the Arabic word ruhamā'u, which describes people who are merciful. It appears in Surah Al-Fath 48:29 as part of the phrase ruhamā'u baynahum. The Clear Quran translates it as "compassionate with one another."
Surah Ali 'Imran 3:159 says that mercy from Allah made the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ lenient with those around him. He is then told to pardon them and consult them in their affairs. In this verse, mercy affects how people are spoken to and included in decisions.
Surah Al-Anbiya 21:107 describes the Prophet ﷺ as "a mercy for the whole world." Mercy is not confined to one relationship or community.
When someone trusts us with a need, mercy has practical consequences. We should listen before deciding how to help and protect what should remain private. The name Ruhama recalls the Quranic phrase "compassionate with one another."
