Clean water changes everything.
In rural Bangladesh and Egypt, millions of families don't have access to safe drinking water.
Women and children walk miles each day to collect water from ponds and rivers, water that carries disease. Waterborne illnesses like diarrhea, cholera, and typhoid are among the leading causes of child death in these communities.
When a village gets clean water, everything shifts. Children stay in school. Mothers have time to work. Families stay healthy.
What is a bore hole?
A bore hole is a narrow well drilled deep into the earth to reach underground water sources, called aquifers. Unlike open wells or surface water, the water from a bore hole is naturally filtered through layers of rock and soil, making it clean and safe to drink.
An electric pump is fitted at the surface so families can draw water whenever they need it. We handle the install, and a local family takes on the day-to-day upkeep, keeping the well running for the community.
A single bore hole can serve an entire village, sometimes hundreds of people, for decades.
How we establish a well
1. We identify a community in need, often through local contacts who know which villages are most desperate for clean water.
2. A local drilling team surveys the site and drills the bore hole, typically 60 to 150 feet deep depending on the water table.
3. An electric pump is installed and the water is tested to ensure it's safe for drinking.
4. A local family is set up to run and maintain the well so it lasts for years to come.
The entire process takes just a few days. The impact lasts a lifetime.
"The Prophet (peace be upon him) was asked: 'Which charity is best?' He replied: 'Providing water.'"
Sunan Abu Dawud
In Islam, providing water is one of the greatest forms of sadaqah jariyah, ongoing charity that continues to earn reward for as long as people benefit from it.
A single well can serve a community for 20 years or more. Every glass of water drawn is a continuation of your generosity.
